Trailheads & Canyons

The canyons and mesas in and around Los Alamos are linked by over 150-miles of developed trails. Hikers, runners, horseback riders, mountain bikers, and other trail users delight in the variety of trails from which to choose. The trails offer a quick escape from the hectic pace in the town, a route to commute to work, an easy stroll or a physical challenge, and a chance to observe wildlife or to soak in impressive views.

Aquatic Center Trailhead

The Aquatic Center Trailhead provides access to the central portion of the Los Alamos Trail Network.

Bayo Canyon Trailhead

This Trailhead located at the San Ildefonso roundabout is centrally located on the Los Alamos Trail Network.

Deer Trap & Kwage Mesa Trailheads

Mesa top trailheads offer trail users access to flat, easy trails that head east to stunning viewpoints overlooking the Rio Grande rift.

East Park Trailhead

East Park offers access to both of the major paved pathways in Los Alamos.

Mitchell Trailhead

The Mitchell Trail offers access to some of Los Alamos’ most popular trail destinations

Quemazon Trailhead

Located on the edge of the Western Area neighborhood.

Tent Rocks of Pueblo Canyon

This is a deep gash in the Pajarito Plateau that runs through the center of Los Alamos.

West Jemez Road Trailheads

Three trailheads along West Jemez Road (State Road 501) provide access to the canyons and mesas east of the crest of the Sierra de los Valles.

White Rock Canyon Trailheads

On the edge of White Rock Canyon, a rim trail offers easy access to views into the canyon.
