Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1 effective May 4, within the boundaries of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.
Although Los Alamos County is not officially part of a wastewater surveillance program, BioBot Analytics monitors for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and Influenza A and B in the community. Samples are collected weekly from two sites: one in Los Alamos and one in White Rock. The latest data, provided by BioBot at no cost to the County, is displayed in the graphs below. (Note: The turnaround time from when the sample is collected and analyzed to when the results are available to the county can take up to 10 days or more.)
For additional health-related concerns, we recommend consulting your physician or reaching out to the New Mexico Department of Health's hotline at 1-833-SWNURSE (1-833-796-8773) to speak with a nurse. You can also explore the New Mexico Department of Health’s Viral Respiratory Infection Dashboard which provides detailed state and county-level data on emergency department visits and positive test cases for respiratory infections. The dashboard includes multiple tabs for easy navigation to a variety of helpful information.
