Is the Los Alamos County animal shelter a no-kill shelter? No. If an animal needs to be euthanized, it is done by a licensed veterinarian and after a health or behavioral evaluation has been conducted.

REDEMPTION OF IMPOUNDED ANIMALS Fees for the redemption by the keeper of an impounded animal shall be $0 if the animal is redeemed within 24 hours.

Fees for the redemption by the keeper of an impounded animal shall be $35 per day, per animal, after the first 24 hours. Reimbursement of costs for impounded animals by the keeper shall be the actual cost(s) incurred by the County for the pickup, boarding and care, including veterinary expenses while the impounded animal was in the County’s possession. Proof of current rabies vaccination including proof of sterility.

 

QUARANTINE OF IMPOUNDED ANIMALS Fees for quarantine in the Animal Shelter shall be $100 per animal.

Volunteer Opportunites

The Los Alamos County Animal Shelter has an extensive volunteer program. The volunteers walk dogs, socialize cats, groom and bathe animals, and foster animals that have been at the shelter for too long a period of time.

If you would like to volunteer, please stop by the Animal Shelter to pick up a packet.
