
The Community Services Department (CSD) includes Library, Parks, Recreation, Ice Rink, Aquatics and Golf Divisions. CSD also provides Social and Cultural Services for children, teens, seniors, and families through contracts with various outside agencies.

VISION: Serving our diverse community and visitors with integrated recreational, educational, social, mental, physical, economic, environmental, and cultural opportunities.
Los Alamos Community Services is proud to have been selected as a finalist for the 2025 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management.
As part of the evaluation process, we are submitting this video presentation to a panel of American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) and National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA) professionals as part of our application.

The Community Services Department oversees the following
Library Division
The Los Alamos County Library System is dedicated to enriching our community by ensuring easy and equal access to various ideas, current information, and evolving services for all.
Parks and Open Spaces
The Parks Division maintains 29 parks, 20 playgrounds, 600 park acres, 4,000 open space acres, and 58 miles of trails. Other public grounds of Los Alamos County include Guaje Pines Cemetery, Camp May, landscaped traffic medians and streetscapes, North Mesa Stables, and Rodeo grounds.
Recreation Division
The Recreation Division facilitates numerous programs and events for people of all ages.
Social Services
The Community Services Department works towards the County goal of "Maintaining Quality Essential Routine Services" through contractual relationships with non-profit organizations to provide social services.
Cultural Services
The Community Services Division (CSD) provides cultural services, such as environmental education, art, 4-H, and senior activities. Five local non-profit groups sign mutually beneficial annual contracts with the County of Los Alamos, enabling them to thrive and to provide outstanding services for citizens and visitors.
