Public Utilities

A view of a utility pole from the ground looking toward the blue sky. Several utility lines intersect at the top of the pole.

Utility services are provided to the Los Alamos Community by the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, a community-owned utility proudly providing electric, natural gas, water and wastewater services.

Unlike an investor-owned utility, DPU focuses on providing good service and being involved in the community rather than profits. It is a department under the Los Alamos County government, owned by the community, and governed by the Board of Public Utilities.

DPU has enacted a moratorium for furloughed employees during the federal government shutdown. If you have been furloughed and are worried about paying your utility bill during this shutdown, please click the icon to the right, fill out the form, and someone from the Customer Care Center will contact you to discuss payment plans and ensure you are protected from utility disconnection.
