Library announces 2025 Summer Reading Program: “Level Up!”
Published on May 23, 2025
The Los Alamos County Libraries invite readers of all ages to participate in the annual Summer Reading Program. The program goes live on Monday, June 2, and runs through July 26. The free, incentive-based program offers flexible participation for all reading levels and schedules. Readers can log their progress using Beanstack, an online platform that helps users track activities and stay motivated.
Participants can enter choosing one of three age levels: adults, teens, and youth (preschool through sixth grade). Each level includes fun and engaging challenges, options for logging reading minutes for young readers and reading activities from curated reading materials for adults, and many other resources. As readers complete activities, they’ll earn prizes designed to keep the momentum going.
This year’s theme, “Level Up!”, draws inspiration from the gaming world and encourages participants to build new skills, discover resources, and have fun along the way. “The theme is giving us the opportunity to promote library materials and services in a way that encourages patrons to explore and learn,” said Eva Jacobson, senior librarian. “We often hear that people aren’t aware of some of our newest or most exciting offerings. This program is our way of saying, ‘Let us surprise you.’”
Jacobson added, “Did you know the library offers free streaming services? Or that we have free online courses, give access to New York Times Games, and connect community members through library events like chess programs, tabletop game events, and Dungeons and Dragons campaigns? We can also help community members and visitors identify community events and things to do in the region. This year’s challenge truly has something for everyone.”
The Summer Reading Program kicks off Monday, June 2, with a circus-themed celebration featuring the acclaimed performance troupe Wise Fool. Activities begin at 2 p.m. with circus arts workshops in and around Mesa Public Library, culminating in a public performance at 6 p.m. on the Ashley Pond stage. All activities are free, and attendees are welcome to participate in one or all events.
