Detour in place for westbound NM-4

The word detour next to a traffic barrier

Drivers heading west through White Rock on NM-4 are being detoured so that a section of road and the waterline below it can be assessed and repaired. The detour began Friday afternoon. It is not yet known how long repairs will take.

The detour will take drivers left onto Rover Boulevard, right onto Grand Canyon Avenue, right onto Sherwood Boulevard and left onto NM-4.

A water leak under the westbound lane of NM-4 in White Rock is causing the pavement to sag. The underground water pipeline under this section of road was replaced earlier this year.

Wagner Construction, the Minnesota-based company contracted for the work by the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, dispatched crews to make the repairs. Until the work begins, westbound drivers will see steel plates that have been placed over the sagging section.

While eastbound lanes are not affected by this leak, all drivers are asked to drive cautiously past this area in consideration of the workers on the road. Wagner crews are using the Tewa gas station parking lot for staging.

The cause of the water leak is not yet known. A previous leak that occurred in May on the eastbound side of the road was caused by a faulty gasket.
