A water leak under the westbound lane of NM-4 in White Rock is causing the pavement to sag. The underground water pipeline under this section of road was replace earlier this year.

Wagner Construction, the Minnesota-based company contracted for the work by the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, has mobilized crews that are expected to arrive in Los Alamos on Friday afternoon. In the meantime, the westbound lane will be closed for a short period this afternoon so that steel plates can be placed over the sagging section until the contractor arrives to make repairs. With the steel plates in place, the lane will remain open until repair work begins.

The eastbound lanes are not affected by this leak. However, all drivers, west- and eastbound, are asked to drive cautiously past this area in consideration of the workers on the road. Once Wagner crews arrive, they will use the Tewa gas station parking lot for staging.

The cause of the water leak is not yet known. A previous leak that occurred in May on the eastbound side of the road was caused by a faulty gasket.
