The Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office is asking property owners to re-enroll in Fraud Guard, a free online property fraud alert service, after a software issue may have left some initial sign-ups incomplete. Homeowners who have not yet joined the program are also encouraged to do so.

Fraud Guard, launched in April 2023, notifies participants by email if a document bearing their name is recorded in the Clerk’s Office. Receiving an alert allows individuals to quickly verify whether the activity is legitimate, helping detect and address potential property fraud before serious financial or legal complications occur.

A software glitch gave some users the impression they had successfully enrolled, even though the final step did not process. As a result, some residents may believe they are protected when they are not.

The software issue has been resolved, and the Clerk’s Office has posted step-by-step instructions with photos to guide residents through the enrollment process. Instructions and the enrollment link are available at losalamosnm.us/fraud-guard.

“Whether you previously enrolled or have never signed up, we encourage all homeowners to take this step to protect their property,” said County Clerk Michael Redondo. “Re-enrolling or joining the program ensures you’ll receive alerts if a document with your name is recorded in our office.”

Fraud Guard is available at no cost to property owners in Los Alamos County. For assistance, contact the County Clerk’s Office at 505-662-8010 or email clerks@losalamosnm.gov.
