Hexad crews working for Bonfire on behalf of Los Alamos County, are moving into the Los Alamos townsite this week after completing initial work in White Rock. They are conducting field assessments for the County’s Community Broadband Network (CBN) design. Work is expected to continue into October 2025 and involves collecting utility data and evaluating planned aerial and underground routes across the County.  Limited access to some private property is required.
Crews will also conduct follow-up assessments in various White Rock neighborhoods as the design progresses.
Residents may see surveyors along streets evaluating utility poles and opening utility vaults as part of the data collection process. In some cases, Hexad crews may need to access a utility pole in a resident’s backyard. Property owners affected by backyard access will receive a door hanger with the scheduled date and time window. Residents do not need to be home while crews are present.
The CBN project is a major infrastructure initiative to improve internet access, reliability and affordability across the County. Once complete, the open-access network will enable fiber-to-the-premise service to more than 10,000 homes and businesses, expanding internet subscription options for the community.
The final network design is expected to go to the Los Alamos County Council for approval in spring, with construction to follow.
