On July 9, 2024, the County Council approved a $485,000 budget for the Mesa Public Library Siding Replacement and Wall Repair Project. All-Rite Construction Inc. began work on January 20, 2025, with project completion anticipated by March 2025.
The Mesa Public Library, constructed in 1994, has been a community cornerstone for over three decades. Over time, the building's siding has deteriorated due to weather exposure and intense UV rays, particularly on the south-facing exterior. Although the siding was last replaced in 2011, prolonged sun exposure has led to severe fading and a diminished appearance.
Los Alamos County selected a high-density, color-impregnated fiber cement façade panel to replace the existing siding. This advanced material is designed to withstand freezing temperatures, heavy rain, and UV exposure. It is also fire-resistant and comes with a 10-year warranty, offering a durable and long-lasting solution superior to the thinner, laminated siding currently in place.
During the project planning, structural engineers inspected cracks in the building’s exterior CMU wall veneer. These cracks were determined to be non-structural and will be repaired as part of the project.
This essential improvement will enhance the building's visual appeal and preserve its status as a prominent and attractive feature of the community.
