Three public tours of Los Alamos County’s water production infrastructure are scheduled for the second Fridays in July, August and September. The tours are free but space is limited! Tickets are available at ladpu.com/well.

The tours are being offered in response to community demand following the launch of public wastewater plant tours by the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) earlier this year.

Registrants will get a glimpse of SCADA, which is used to continuously monitor all the wells, boosters and tanks in the system. They will then visit a sampling of these booster stations, wells and tanks. The tour starts at 10 a.m. and is expected to last two hours. Each tour is limited to 10 participants, so larger groups and organizations are asked to schedule private tours separately by contacting Victor Tanuz, Victor.Tanuz@lacnm.us, (505) 662-8157.

DPU’s water production system includes:

  • 12 production wells
  • 25 tanks
  • 17 booster stations
  • 37 million gallons of storage
  • 4 disinfection facilities
  • 4 pressure regulation stations
  • 50 miles of transmission lines
