Beginning Saturday, May 24, Bun Ryan and Senior sports fields at North Mesa in Los Alamos, along with the Spirio soccer field in White Rock will be closed. According to officials from the Los Alamos County Parks Division, the closure will allow an exciting renovation project to begin, aimed at improving the playing surfaces of these fields to enhance performance and safety for athletes. Living Color, LLC, doing business as Rio Grande Landscape, LLC, was awarded the renovation contract.

Renovations will include laser grading and leveling the fields for better drainage, installing new sod, replacing irrigation heads, and testing the system, rebuilding pitchers' mounds, and installing new bases and anchors on the softball and baseball fields.

The athletic field renovation project will result in significant improvements and enhancements, including:

-       Quality Turf: The new turf will provide a consistent playing surface that meets the needs of various sports and activities, including soccer, football, lacrosse, baseball, and softball.

-       Improved Playability: The new sod will address issues with the existing turf, such as unevenness, wear and tear, and drainage problems that may have affected playability. The upgraded surface will offer a smooth and level field, allowing athletes to perform at their best.

-       Enhanced Aesthetics: In addition to improved functionality, the new sod will boost the visual appeal of the sports fields. The refreshed turf will create an inviting environment for players, coaches, and spectators alike.

“We’re excited to get this project going to improve the safety of our fields.  We also understand the importance of minimizing disruption to sports activities and events during the renovation project. Our Parks team will work diligently to ensure that the project is completed efficiently and with minimal downtime, allowing athletes to return to the field as soon as possible,” said Parks Superintendent Wendy Parker.
