Shop local this holiday season

Los Alamos County Councilor Melenee Hand presents a proclamation designating Nov. 29 as Small Business Saturday in Los Alamos to Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce Director Sandy Jones during the November 4 County Council meeting.

Los Alamos County is encouraging residents and visitors to support local businesses throughout the holiday season by participating in Small Business Saturday on November 29, 2025. This national celebration underscores the essential role small businesses play in shaping the local economy, strengthening community character, and contributing to the unique identity of Los Alamos and White Rock.

This year’s Small Business Saturday is organized by the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Los Alamos MainStreet and Creative District. As part of the festivities, Enterprise Bank & Trust is sponsoring the annual Blue Bucks Promotion, running November 28 – December 13. Shoppers who dine or make purchases at participating local businesses will have the opportunity to win cash and gift card prizes by submitting their receipts—either by filling out a ticket in-store or uploading receipts online.

Following Small Business Saturday, the community is also encouraged to take part in Museum Store Sunday on November 30. Launched in 2017, this global event features more than 2,200 participating museums across all 50 states and around the world. Museum Store Sunday offers shoppers a meaningful way to support cultural institutions by purchasing unique, mission-driven gifts during the holiday season.

The County further reminds the community to consider supporting local nonprofits on Giving Tuesday, a worldwide movement founded in 2012 to inspire generosity. Giving Tuesday provides an opportunity to donate to organizations that strengthen the social fabric of Los Alamos County and communities nationwide.

“When you shop, dine, or use local services, you’re supporting the people and businesses that make Los Alamos and White Rock distinctive,” said Anita Barela, Economic Development Program Manager at Los Alamos County. “Every purchase helps create jobs, boosts local investment, and ensures a thriving community for years to come.”

Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore their favorite small businesses, discover new local treasures, and share their experiences on social media using #SBSLosAlamos or #SBSWhiteRock.
