Quemazon roadway during water leak repair

After water from a leaking gate valve and subsequent repair efforts destroyed a roadway in the Quemazon subdivision on Wednesday, Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) and the Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Division collaborated on a plan to fix the road as quickly as possible. Repairs are scheduled for Friday, Monday and Tuesday.

The water leak occurred on the block of Quemazon Place between Tranquilo and Sereno. DPU Gas, Water, and Sewer crews worked late into the night to prep the road for asphalt replacement. Due to the size and complexity of the situation, the equipment and materials necessary for a repair were not readily available within the county prompting an emergency procurement to get them from Albuquerque.

Traffic and Streets crews will start road repairs on Friday then continue on Monday and Tuesday. The work zone will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the repair. Traffic can be detoured through Tranquilo and Sereno. Drivers are asked to exercise caution near the work zone.
