Los Alamos Golf Course Opening Update
Published on July 22, 2025
The Los Alamos County Golf Course was open for play on the front nine this past week, and this morning, July 22, staff evaluated the course for any problem areas and the overall status of the course for additional play. While staff confirmed that the front nine is still good for play, and thanks the golfing community for taking care of the course and filling in their divots, we feel that it is also beneficial for the course to rest for a few days between open days.
Therefore, the Los Alamos County Golf Course will have the schedule as follows:
- Tee times for July 25, 26 & 27 can be made online beginning at 6:00am July 23rd. Tee times for all three days can be made at this time.
- We will continue this Friday through Sunday schedule through August 10, 2025. Staff will evaluate the course conditions and provide updates on use at this time. - Tee Times for subsequent openings will be available 7 days in advance, beginning at 6:00am.
- Golfers can rent a new electronic golf car while playing the front nine. However, please be aware that there are areas on the golf course that are geo-fenced off. If you are using a golf car, and you enter a geo-fenced area, it will alert you, and the GPS screen will post a message informing you to reverse out of the restricted area. If you do not leave the area, the golf car will shut down.
Please only book 9-holes if you are only going to play nine holes, so that walk-ins can be accommodated. The practice range and main putting green are open. These areas are available to golfers for practice. Range balls are available from 8:30am to 6:30pm, Monday through Saturday. The practice range closes at 4:30pm on Sundays to prep the range for mowing on Mondays.
Cottonwood on the Greens is open for “Golfer Hours” from 8:00am – 11:00am on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and is also open from 11:00am – 8:00pm daily. Please visit them for lunch, dinner, or a snack inside or on the patio.
The back nine will remain closed. Los Alamos County staff has reseeded several tee boxes and greens throughout the course, which were spotty in areas, to help assist with the grow-in. Additionally, there are areas on the back nine that include greens and collars, which are not yet ready to handle play. Staff have utilized the old 7th green as a green nursery, and have used sod from this nursery on holes 12, 13, 15, and 18, to help expedite grow-in. Staff will continue the weekly monitoring of the grow-in process. Staff and contractors will continue to review and monitor the course frequently to assess the progress of root growth in newly seeded and sodded areas, as well as the re-contoured greens. Pictures of the progress being made with these efforts can be found on the Los Alamos County Golf Course website.
