Successful Completion of State-Mandated Recount and Audit

The Los Alamos Clerk’s Office is pleased to announce the successful completion of the recent state-mandated recount and audit of the 2024 General Election. The recount was mandated due to the County Council contest between David W. Reagor and Denise Derkacs, where the margin of difference is 0.74%, falling below the 1% threshold specified by NMSA 1-14-24 A(3). Additionally, the audit was conducted as part of the standard post-election process, as outlined in NMSA 1-14-13.2. These processes were conducted for the tabulation systems used during the General Election. The recount and audit took place from December 3 to December 5, 2024, at the County Clerk’s Warehouse located in the Los Alamos Municipal Building.
This rigorous process has confirmed the accuracy of the election results and underscores the commitment to maintaining the integrity of our electoral system.
County Clerk Naomi Maestas stated, “Trust in our electoral processes is fundamental to our democracy. The successful execution of this recount and audit, which resulted in a 100% match of totals submitted during the canvass, is a testament to the integrity of our state’s election process.”
This comprehensive review was conducted by a dedicated bi-partisan team of professionals who worked tirelessly to ensure that every vote was accurately counted. Their commitment and countless hours of effort reflect the high standards of transparency and accountability that our office upholds. Members of the public were in attendance to observe the recount process.

The verified results have been submitted to Zlotnik & Sandoval, PC, and the New Mexico Secretary of State, as required by law. These results will also be made available for public viewing on the County Clerk’s website at www.losalamosnm.us/clerk.
