Work to continue on Camp May Road next week
Published on January 15, 2026
While Los Alamos County and contractor DUB-L-EE had planned to pause road and utility work on Camp May Road starting Friday, that plan is being revised to include a road closure from Tuesday through Thursday of next week, January 20-22.
Work on the Jemez Mountain Fire Protection Project (JMFPP) began last April and with unseasonably warm temperatures, the winter pause that was originally scheduled for December 1 hasn’t yet been necessary. This project includes installation of waterlines and conduit for electric and fiber lines up to Pajarito Mountain.
On a related note, Pajarito Mountain’s website reports it will be open to skiers this weekend, from Saturday, January 17, through Monday, January 19, for the first time this winter.
While this is expected to be the last work impacting Camp May Road and the Camp May recreation area through the end of February, you’re encouraged to check the Cone Zone on the County website (lacnm.com/conezone) before heading up there just to be sure. The Cone Zone is updated regularly and lists planned traffic impacts within Los Alamos County.
