As the threat of wildfire is increasing, cities and counties nationwide are adopting International Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) standards as part of their building and fire prevention codes—not only to reduce fire risk, but also to demonstrate proactive mitigation that may help residents retain or secure homeowners’ insurance in high-risk areas. Join Los Alamos County for a brief presentation and discussion regarding the recent efforts of County staff, including the Fire Marshal and the Chief Building Official, on the best way to implement the WUI ordinance using industry best practices and the 2021 International Wildland-Urban Interface Code. Attend the WUI Virtual Town Hall presentation via Zoom Wednesday, April 30, at 5:30 p.m. Questions from the public will be addressed following a short presentation from staff.

A presentation was made to County Council at the Work Session on March 18, 2025, and a discussion was held on how the WUI relates to the Los Alamos County Code of Ordinances. The WUI Draft Ordinance was included in that presentation and is available for the public to review.
