Los Alamos County Social Services to Expand Evening Hours Program at Libraries with weekly service
LOS ALAMOS, N.M. — Los Alamos County Social Services Division is expanding access to vital support by offering weekly evening walk-in hours at both Mesa Public Library and White Rock Branch Library throughout 2026. The program will now be offered weekly on Wednesday evenings beginning in February, alternating between the two libraries from 4 to 7 p.m. The first and third Wednesdays will be at Mesa Public Library, and the second and fourth Wednesdays at White Rock Branch Library.
These drop-in sessions, previously offered monthly, are designed for community members who may not be able to meet with Social Services staff during regular business hours. Individuals can receive assistance with housing, utility payments, food insecurity, safety at home, and other county, state, and federal resources. Appointments are not required.
Los Alamos County Social Services aims to reduce barriers and ensure more residents can connect with the support they need. Jamie Allbach, Social Services program specialist, will be the main contact for this program and will meet with community members at both library locations. Please consult the library event calendar for dates, locations, holiday closures and any changes.
Community members are encouraged to stop by, ask questions and learn what support options may be available to them. “It is our mission as a library to connect community members to resources, and this expanded collaboration between the two county divisions is a natural step in this direction,” said Senior Librarian Eva Jacobson. “We are excited to share our spaces with the Social Services Division and create access for anyone looking to connect, whether formally or informally, with a wealth of assistance programs available to so many.”
In February, during office hours, Social Services staff will give out free mini first-aid kits to all residents ages 65 and older.
