Seeking Public Input for Justice Center Wall Art Mural
Published on June 09, 2025
The Arts in Public Places Board (APPB) is inviting the community to provide feedback on three design options for a new mural on the Justice Center wall, facing Trinity Drive. The project, part of the ongoing effort to integrate public art into municipal spaces, seeks to reflect the spirit and identity of Los Alamos through a glass tile mosaic. The mural is proposed to be installed on the Justice Center wall along Trinity Drive, a location chosen for its high visibility and alignment with public input.
The mural project originated from a proposal to install artwork at the Los Alamos Golf Course, where artist J Muzacz’s design was selected. However, following community feedback, a new location and updated design concept were developed to better capture local flora, fauna, and the region’s unique culture. The public is invited to participate in an online survey to help shape the final design.
The three concepts are as follows:
- Local Flora & Fauna 1 – Featuring native plants and animals, with vibrant colors and playful elements.
- Local Flora & Fauna 2 – A more grounded design inspired by Anderson Overlook’s landscape.
- Cultural References – Incorporating local wildlife and native history, with an abstract backdrop reflecting the area's dramatic terrain.
The estimated cost for the mural's creation and installation is $55,000. Survey responses are being accepted through Sunday, June 22, 2025.
Community participation is key to this project, and APPB encourages everyone to contribute their feedback.
