Los Alamos County’s contractor for the Jemez Mountain Fire Protection Project, DUB-L-EE, will begin paving operations on Camp May Road beginning Monday, February 23. The following closures will be in place for Camp May Road:

  • Feb. 23-27: traffic controls will be in place for a one-lane closure while Dub-L-EE prepares for paving.
  • Starting March 2: road will be closed to the public from Monday morning through Thursday at 5 p.m. each week until further notice. This closure includes Camp May and trails that are accessed from Camp May Road.
  • March 16-19: the week of local spring break may be an exception to the closures depending on the weather. If Pajarito Mountain has enough snow to remain open for skiing, the road will be open.

The work on Camp May Road is being done under the Jemez Mountain Fire Protection Project (JMFPP) which began last April. This project includes installation of underground utility infrastructure up to Pajarito Mountain. Waterlines and conduit for electric and fiber lines were installed before the project paused last month. Beginning in March, the remaining tasks requiring road closures are repaving of the road and installation of vaults for fiber and electric lines.

Road impacts under the JMFPP are listed and updated on the Cone Zone page of the County website (lacnm.com/conezone). A project web page can be found at ladpu.com/JMFPP. Questions about this project may be directed to Ernesto Gallegos, 505-662-8147, er.gallegos@losalamosnm.gov.
