Rael appointed Deputy County Manager for Los Alamos County

Los Alamos County is pleased to announce that Juan Rael has accepted the Deputy County Manager position. Rael will join Deputy County Manager Linda Matteson in supporting County Manager Anne Laurent in carrying out policies and overseeing the administration of county services in alignment with Los Alamos County Council adopted goals.

As a current resident of Los Alamos County, Rael brings a wealth of experience and understanding of the unique challenges faced in the County. He has served in various capacities since joining the County in 2018, most recently as Public Works Director.

“I am honored to take on this new role and look forward to engaging with the community to foster strong relationships and collaboratively address challenges,” said Rael.

Rael holds a degree in civil engineering and has approximately 20 years of professional experience. Rael has worked for both state and local governments complemented by his work in the private sector with consulting engineering firms in California and New Mexico. His extensive background in both public and private sectors position him well to lead and support the County’s mission.

“I am thrilled that Juan has accepted this position,” said Laurent. “In his role as Public Works Director, he has consistently demonstrated exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills. I am confident that his experience and dedication to our community will serve the County well in this new role.”

Rael will step into the role on Monday, Dec. 9, following the departure of John Craig, who has chosen to pursue other professional opportunities.
