Public Library Invites Community to Contribute to Military Tribute
Published on September 22, 2025
The Los Alamos Public Library is inviting community members to share their stories and photographs of military service for a commemorative display and slideshow this November to be featured at both library locations. November is National Veterans and Military Families Month.
The display is being created by White Rock Branch Librarian Monique Archbold, herself a military spouse. Archbold is sharing her own story, including a photo of her husband returning from a six-month deployment and meeting their infant daughter for the first time. “That moment will be forever etched in my memory,” Archbold said. “I was overwhelmed by the love I felt for them both, for the privilege it was to witness this tender introduction, and for the excitement I felt for our life as a threesome to truly begin. Families in the military experience unique sacrifices often unnoticed by the rest of society, but those same sacrifices create deep bonds that make the separations less painful and the homecomings more sweet.”
Community members with connections to the armed forces, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Space Force, or National Guard, are encouraged to contribute. Submissions should include:
- Details: Branch and years of service, rate/rank, deployments, duties, and more
- Photos: Digital snapshots highlighting your and your family's service (the library can assist with scanning physical photos)
- Stories: Optional short narratives (150-200 words) capturing unique experiences, from significant missions to personal anecdotes
Submissions are open now, are due through Oct. 24, 2025, and should be emailed to libweb@losalamosnm.gov.
Questions may be directed to Mesa Public Library at 505-662-8250 or White Rock Branch Library at 505-662-8265. The submission details can also be found in the Library event calendar
