Public Input Sought for Nature Center Sculpture Installation

The Art in Public Places Board (APPB) is inviting the community to weigh in on a new sculpture to be installed at the Los Alamos Nature Center. As part of its mission to integrate art into public spaces, APPB is considering the purchase of a piece from one of three regional artists, with installation proposed near the front entrance of the Nature Center or within the adjacent garden.

Art in Public Places was established to visually enhance the community, increase public awareness of the arts, and preserve local culture for future generations. The program emphasizes the inclusion of artists with ties to Los Alamos County, giving priority to those who live or have lived in the area.

The following sculptures are under consideration:

- "Songbird"

Price: $10,000

Details: 60-inch tall pillar

- "Songbird Friends Forever"

Price: $3,400 Details: 26-inch tall pillar

Artist: Gilberto Romero, Santa Fe, NM

 

- "Migrating Butterflies"

Price: $4,200

Details: 27-inch sculpture Artist: Kevin Box, Santa Fe, NM

 

- "Raven Dialog, Friendly Advice"

Price: $6,000

Details: 17" x 19" x 18.5"

The APPB members value community input as a crucial step in the selection process and encourage everyone to share their opinions by completing the community input survey.
