Los Alamos County Community Development Department is hosting a free public workshop titled “Home Business Basics: Permits, Planning & Pathways to Growth.” The workshop is designed to help aspiring and current home-based business owners navigate the steps to get started and stay compliant.

The workshop will take place on Tuesday, July 15, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Los Alamos County Municipal Building (1000 Central Ave.). Details on how to join the workshop virtually can be found at https://lacnm.com/HomeBusinessWorkshop.

Topics include:

  • What qualifies as a home occupation vs. home business
  • Where and how these businesses are allowed
  • Licensing, fees, and application steps
  • Compliance standards like parking, signage, and employee limits

Attendees can ask questions during the presentation and speak with County staff afterward. A printed info packet with zoning, licensing, and contact details will be provided. The packet and session recording will be posted online following the workshop.

“Our goal is to empower entrepreneurs with the knowledge they need to operate legally and successfully right from their own homes,” said Dr. Shanna Sasser, Economic Development Administrator. “Whether you’re just getting started or want to make sure you’re following the rules, this workshop will offer clear guidance.”

This event is free and open to the public. For more information about starting a business, contact the Community Development Department at (505) 662-8120 or email CDD@lacnm.us. Additional information about starting a business can be found at lacnm.com/DoingBusiness.
