Los Alamos County Invites Public to First Community Engagement Session

Los Alamos County invites community members to participate in the first community engagement session for the Bayo Canyon Trailhead Improvement Project, an initiative focused on creating a safer, more accessible, and welcoming trailhead for users of all abilities.

The first in-person community engagement session will take place on February 11, 2026, at 5:30 PM at Fuller Lodge. Community members are encouraged to attend to learn more about the project, review early concepts, and share input that will help guide the design process.

In addition to the in-person meeting, the County is offering multiple ways for the public to participate:

The purpose of the Bayo Canyon Trailhead Improvement Project is to design and develop an improved, accessible trailhead that enhances the user experience while supporting a wide range of recreational needs. The project scope includes concept development, schematics, design, construction documents and specifications, as well as construction administration.

Planned amenities include:

-       Expanded parking, including trailer parking.

-       A vault toilet

-       Informational kiosk

-       Bicycle repair station

-       Shade structure and picnic table

-       ADA-compliant parking spaces

Accessibility considerations will be integrated throughout the project to ensure all amenities are usable and welcoming to the entire community.

Project Timeline

  • December 2, 2025: Public Information and Involvement Plan (PIIP) uploaded
  • February 11, 2026: First Community Engagement Session

Project documents, including the Public Information and Involvement Plan (PIIP), are available in the Project Document Folder for Bayo Canyon. Community input is a critical part of this process, and Los Alamos County encourages residents, trail users, and stakeholders to participate and help shape the future of the Bayo Canyon Trailhead
