LEPC offers free disaster preparedness training
Published on October 01, 2024
The Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), hosted by the Los Alamos County Office of Emergency Management, is inviting the community to register for a FREE disaster preparedness training. The two-day course, titled When Disaster Strikes: Prepare, Act, Survive (PER 334), is provided by Texas A&M Engineering Extension Services (TEEX) and will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2, and Sunday, Nov. 3, at Fuller Lodge, 2132 Central Avenue, Los Alamos.
The DHS/FEMA funded course is designed to equip individuals and families with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for, survive, and recover from a disaster. Participants will learn how to assess the need to either evacuate or shelter in place during an emergency, as well as the steps to take after making that critical decision.
The training follows a “me, we, they” approach, which encourages individuals to care for themselves, their families, and their communities before, during, and after a disaster. Through a combination of interactive discussions and hands-on activities based on real-life scenarios, participants will gain insight into how proper planning and preparedness can increase their chances of survival and recovery in the event of a disaster.
The class will be held from
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from
8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday. Registration is free and open to all community members, but spots are limited to 30 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Create an account and register for the course at
TEEX's website. Participants will receive a certificate of completion following the course.
