LAPD Youth Cadet Program begins in August 2025

The inaugural launch of the LAPD Youth Cadet Program is coming August 2025! This program is for high schoolers, freshmen through senior grade levels. It will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm once a month, from August through April.
Participating young adults will learn about de-escalation, laws and application, public safety interactions, public speaking, public safety history, and career opportunities. There is also an optional air gun and bow program for interested cadets.
The Youth Cadet program centers on giving real-world career experiences and leadership growth opportunities to young adults with an interest in the public safety vocation. To achieve this, the program will deliver engaging academic curricula, character-based leadership philosophies, and career-focused programs that align to state and national standards, guiding students to their full potential. Below are some highlights of what will be taught in the program:

- Criminal and Traffic investigations
- Mock Trials
- Public Safety Models in the United States
- Professional Development
- Value of Community Outreach and Engagement
- Building Social and Professional Relationships
