Today, Chief Sgambellone released crime statistics through the third quarter of 2025 which were compiled by the Records Section of the Los Alamos Police Department.
Through the first three quarters of 2025, a total of 152 crimes have been reported to police including 47 crimes against persons, 98 crimes against property, and 7 crimes against society. By comparison, 161 crimes were reported to the police in the first three quarters of 2024 including 44 crimes against persons, 104 crimes against property, and 13 crimes against society. This represents a 6% decrease from the first three quarters in 2024 as compared to the first three quarters of 2025.
Additionally, there were a total of 145 accidents reported through the first three quarters, including 97 with damage over $500, 14 with damage under $500 and 34 injury accidents. The Department’s new traffic unit started on September 14th and it is our expectation that accidents will decline with the additional enforcement efforts.
During the third quarter of 2025, several fraud and theft cases continued to be reported to the Department. Citizens are reminded not to provide personal identifying information, especially social security numbers and bank account information. Fraudsters will identify themselves as law enforcement or other government officials. Any citizen who questions the veracity of such emails, texts, and calls can always contact the Department for review.
The Los Alamos Police Department appreciates the community’s involvement in maintaining an exceptionally low crime rate and high quality of life. The Police Department remains committed to being an effective partner with our citizens and business owners. For more information on crime prevention, please call Commander Ross at 505-662-1874.
