Weather permitting, Los Alamos Landscaping, under contract with the Los Alamos County Parks Division, will conduct a post-tension slab concrete pour for the East Park basketball court on Friday, June 6. Work is scheduled to begin at 4 a.m. and will continue throughout the day until approximately 10 p.m.

The new concrete slab will replace the existing surface, which has deteriorated over time due to wear and weather exposure. A post-tension slab is designed to reduce future cracking and increase durability, resulting in a longer-lasting surface better suited to year-round use.

Community members can expect increased noise, truck traffic and lighting in the area to accommodate the crews. Los Alamos Landscaping has obtained an approved noise permit for the early morning and extended work hours.

The East Park parking lot, shared with the Animal Shelter and Dog Obedience School will be heavily impacted during the duration of the pour. The staging area will be set up on the east side of the lot, while the west side will see large concrete trucks entering, exiting and turning around throughout the day.

For questions about the project, please contact Parks Superintendent Wendy Parker at 505-662-8159.
