CodeRED system limited due to security event
Published on November 14, 2025
Los Alamos County Office of Emergency Management (LAC-OEM) was informed by OnSolve CodeRED, the County’s emergency alert system, on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 5:52 p.m. of a detection of potential vulnerabilities in the platform. The company immediately suspended platform access for a comprehensive review of any unauthorized access. Access has since been restored; however, capabilities will be limited temporarily as the system is coming back online. LAC-OEM always encourages the community to plan for potential emergencies to ensure the safety and security of every individual, family, and business and, due to the current limitations of CodeRED, to plan for alternative means of communication.
“At this stage, we want to emphasize that there is no indication that any customer data or personal information has been compromised. Our teams have been working continuously to verify and strengthen the integrity of the system before restoring access,” notes CodeRED Senior Vice President of Customer Success Ann Pickren.
LAC-OEM supports the implementation of best practices at home and at work.
“Planning ahead for potential outages and emergencies—whether due to natural disasters, cyberattacks, or infrastructure failures—ensures that critical information reaches those who need it most. Having alternative communication methods and clear protocols in place can keep communities safe and response efforts effective when it matters most,” shared Emergency Manager Beverley Simpson.
Unexpected disruptions can happen at any time. As a result, Simpson recommends the following alternative communication tools to help ensure the continuity of business operations and personal safety if an outage or emergency occurs:
- Check the County’s website – Bookmark the County website at www.losalamosnm.us and check it for alerts when you suspect there is an outage or emergency in process.
- Tune In to AM 1610 Radio – Listen to the latest incident updates.
- Follow us on social media – Follow the Los Alamos County page on Facebook, Instagram or NextDoor for any alerts.
- Watch the local media – Press releases will be sent to the media to provide any available information.
In the case of an outage or emergency, LAC-OEM reminds the public of the importance of avoiding calling 9-1-1 except in the case of a true emergency. Redundancies are in place to ensure police dispatch remains operational.
Simpson says, “We recognize the importance of businesses maintaining operations, parents keeping in contact with their children, and individuals staying informed. The County has limited control in how third-party organizations maintain and update their infrastructure. What we can do as a County is continue to provide incident updates in as many ways as possible.”
Simpson adds that the CodeRED system was not utilized during the November 11, 2025, communications outage as a result of previous feedback from the public regarding access to cell phone and email messages during an event of this nature. For this communications outage, the alternative methods were central to the County’s response.
