UNITE’s Arrive Alive Tour® is the nation’s number one ranked drunk and distracted driving awareness event, as well as the first-and-only marijuana driving simulator in the country, and it’s coming to Los Alamos! The community is invited to participate Thursday, Feb. 26, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Central Park Square parking lot off Main Street.
The Arrive Alive Tour® aims to empower drivers with the knowledge and tools they need to build lifelong safe driving habits by using a high-tech, state-of-the-art simulator that allows participants to drive while distracted, drunk, or drugged in a fully functioning vehicle—without moving or being intoxicated. This innovative simulator enables participants to experience the real-life dangers without facing real-life consequences.
DWI Program Coordinator Lauren Tomko shared, “By bringing interactive, life-saving programs like this one to Los Alamos, we can work together to reduce impaired and distracted driving incidents and make our roads safer for everyone.”
In New Mexico, impaired and distracted driving is a significant concern. The state continues to combat this issue with community programs aimed at reducing crashes, injuries, and fatalities. With young drivers (ages 16-20) being 17 times more likely to die in a crash when they have a blood alcohol content of .08% compared to when they have not been drinking, educating teens on the dangers of impaired and distracted driving is critical. Driver distraction alone accounts for more than 58% of teen crashes.
The Arrive Alive Tour® is sponsored by the Los Alamos County DWI Program. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Nick Pitts at 888-436-3394 or Lauren Tomko at 505-662-8099.
Let’s make a difference together—one driver, and one safe choice at a time.
