51st Annual Los Alamos Triathlon Set for July 19, 2025

The 51st Annual Los Alamos Triathlon will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, beginning at 7:30 AM. Known as one of the oldest continuously running triathlons, this event offers both seasoned and beginner athletes the opportunity to challenge themselves in a unique and scenic setting at an elevation of 7,400 ft.

This year’s race features a sprint triathlon format with a challenging combination of a 20K bike, a 400-meter pool swim, and a 5K run. The course winds through beautiful rolling hills and mountain vistas, with athletes starting their bike leg in town, transitioning into the Aquatic Center for the swim, and finishing with a slight uphill run. We welcome and encourage community members to volunteer for the event. Volunteers 15 and older, snacks provided, volunteers will receive a triathlon shirt and must register by July 18th. If you are interested, please click here for more information.

Course Details:

-       Bike: 20K on an open course with rolling terrain through scenic forest and mountain vistas.

-       Swim: 400m in an 8-lane pool, participants will swim in one direction in each lane (snake swim).

-       Run: 5K with a slight uphill finish.

Participants should be prepared for an exciting and dynamic race, with all competitors required to wear helmets during the bike leg. The swim will be held in a 50-meter pool, and athletes will swim in one direction per lane. Please note that no diving is allowed during the swim.

Important Information:

-       The Los Alamos Aquatic Center will be closed for regular public activities on the day of the Triathlon to help support and run the race.

-       The race will begin promptly at 7:30 AM, so please ensure you have your packet by 7:00 AM at the latest.

Race Categories:

-       Individual: Various age groups, including 15-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61-69, 70+.

-       Teams: All Male, All Female, or Coed, with categories based on combined age ranges.

-       Elite: No age categories, just male and female.

-       Clydesdale & Athena: Special categories for athletes 220+ lbs. (Men) and 165+ lbs. (Women).

Registration:

-       Individual: $50

-       2-Person Team: $90

-       3-Person Team: $120

Important Race Details:

-       Registration closes on July 17, 2025, at 6:30 PM (no race-day registration).

-       Late entries (Entries taken on July 18) will incur a $15 late fee (no race-day registration).

-       Packet pick-up will take place July 18, 2025, from 12:00 - 5:30 PM at the Los Alamos Aquatic Center. For those unable to pick up their packet on Friday, race-day packet pick-up will be available until 7:00 AM on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

Jr. Triathlon
In addition to the main event, the 7th Annual Jr. Triathlon and 29th Annual Kids Triathlon will take place, encouraging young athletes to get involved in multi-sport racing.

-       Jr. Triathlon will start at 7:30 AM, with packet pick-up available until 7:00 AM.

-       Aimed at athletes ages 10-16, this course includes a 6.4K bike, 200m swim, and 2.4K run.

Kids Triathlon

-       Focused on fun and fitness for ages 3-10, this untimed event includes age-appropriate distances for each group.

-       Kids Triathlon will start at 11:00 AM with the conclusion of the Adult/Jr. award ceremony, with packet pick-up available until 10:30 AM.

Bike Route:
The 2025 Bike Course is partially open to traffic, so participants should remain vigilant for potential wildlife and vehicles. Please ride single file, with traffic, and be prepared for possible road hazards. SAG wagons and other safety vehicles will be patrolling the course in case of any emergencies.

Awards Ceremony:
The awards ceremony for the regular triathlon and Jr triathlon will begin at 10:00 AM. There will be with food and refreshments available for all participants after the race is completed.
