This program is still TBD as we transition to the re-plaster project and the pool's closure. We hope to reactivate this program in May at Pinon Pool in White Rock. Stay tuned!

The lifeguard training pre-course consists of the following:

  • Prerequisite 1:
    • Jump into the water from the side, totally submerge, recover to the surface and swim 150 yards using either front crawl or breaststroke, demonstrating breath control.
    • After swimming 150 yards, maintain position at the surface of the water without support for 2 minutes by treading.
    • After maintaining the position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes, swim 50 more yards.
  • Prerequisite 2 (Time Event)
  • Complete the following sequence within 1 minute and 40 seconds, without goggles.
    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards.
    • Surface dive (head or feet first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
    • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping your face at or near the surface.
    • Place the object on the pool deck and exit the water without using the steps of ladder.

Must be 15 years old by completion of the class. Register online or at the Walkup Aquatic Center.
