National Police Week
Posted on 05/12/2022

The Los Alamos Police Department will be holding the Annual Police Memorial Ceremony next Monday, May 16 at 10:00 a.m. at 2500 Trinity Dr. in the north Justice Center Parking Lot in Los Alamos.

LAPD has not held this event in two years due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

If Los Alamos were to enter the “Go” status due to the Cerro Pelado Fire or if any other safety concerns arise, the event will be cancelled.

This event is open to the community and will honor fallen Law Enforcement Officers as a part of National Police Week. LAPD will be raising funds for Special Olympics at the event.

Officers tentatively plan to run the Law Enforcement Torch Run on May 19 to Buffalo Thunder Casino to meet other Law Enforcement Agencies.

LAPD will briefly meet at the Los Alamos Police Department at 8:00 a.m. on May 19 with officers and athletes.

The Torch Run is still tentative due to the Cerro Pelado Fire and may be postponed should safety considerations arise.

National Police Week occurs on the calendar week of May 15 and was proclaimed for the first time by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 to pay recognition to Law Enforcement Officers who lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
