Walkup Aquatic Center

Beginning June 28th, 2021 the Walkup Aquatic Center will discontinue lane reservations and admit recreational swimming in the shallow end of the main pool during scheduled session times. Each recreational time is limited to 34 swimmers in the shallow end at this time, due to staff and lifeguard shortages.

Entries will not be allowed into the building until 5 minutes before session. Check-in anytime during session times, however all guests must exit at the end of scheduled session.
- Lane shares are a possibly, if applicable, please circle swim.
- Locker rooms are available for after swimming use, please continue to come workout ready.

Please be aware that construction is underway at the Aquatic Center, therefore the swimmer’s hallway is closed due to roof construction, and parking is limited.

Aquatic Center Updates:

The Aquatic Center will be closed August 7th - September 12th for annual maintenance and for the Leisure Lagoon project. Front Desk operations will be at the Municipal Building, Room 200.

The Aquatic Center offers diverse activities for citizens and visitors of all ages, income levels, fitness levels, and interests in safe and affordable recreation, instruction, fitness, competitive, and therapeutic programs. The Aquatic Center is known internationally as an excellent training facility for teams from around the United States and the world, including Japan, Belgium, New Zealand, Germany, and many more.  Locally the Center supports private swim teams and the Los Alamos High School Swimming and Diving Team.

Wacky Wednesdays

Every Wednesday, enjoy discounted admission and something fun for all ages. Wacky Wednesday includes the giant Inflatable Obstacle Course and family friendly movies (G or PG in the Lobby).

Warm Water Weekends

Join us on the weekends for a fun time in the Olympic pool as we raise the temperature to 84-85 degrees. Race your friends on the inflatable obstacle course, play with the any of the water toys or join your friends for a splashing game of basketball.

Open Boating

Practice Time for Canoes, Kayaks and Rafts.The doors open a half hour earlier for boat cleaning before entry. All water craft must be rinsed off on the patio prior to pool entry. Boaters must provide their own boat. All participants must have a wristband for entering in the pool. Life jackets are recommended for participants.

Open Scuba

Getting ready for a snorkeling or SCUBA trip, or just want to have fun? Come out to test and practice your SCUBA and/or snorkeling gear. Bring your own gear and certification. You must have a dive buddy for the deep end.

The Walkup Aquatic Center has a multi-purpose room just off the deck for a convenient swimming party!

Rental includes: discounted pool admission, room set up with tables & chairs, and a Happy Birthday banner.  Preferred times to rent the Birthday Room are usually Wacky Wednesday's and Warm Water Weekends.  

Must book two weeks in advance - 25 Maximum

The Los Alamos County PROS Division has many types of recreation equipment you can rent at the PROS Administrative Offices to enhance your recreation experience. Rentals are available at the Aquatic Center Front Desk
