Los Alamos County is accepting applications for eligible candidates for immediate appointment to one of two vacant seats on the Parks and Recreation Board. These vacancies will expire December 2025. Interested Los Alamos County residents who do not hold public office and are not employed by the County may submit an online application by visiting the County’s Boards and Commissions webpage and selecting “apply.” Applications will be accepted now until the vacancies are filled.
The Parks and Recreation Board, comprising seven members, serves as a central point of communication for the parks and recreation interests of the County and as an advisory body to the County Council. Members meet on the second Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building, 1000 Central Ave., Los Alamos. Once appointed by Council, members serve two-year terms, for up to two terms (total of 4-years).
Duties and responsibilities include advising Council and the County Manager on parks and recreation issues, reviewing, and commenting when requested on programs, projects, and County recreational facilities as appropriate.
"Serving on the Parks and Recreation Board provides a way for members of the community to participate in the county process in an advisory role to County Council in areas such as parks, open space, and recreational facilities,” explained Parks Superintendent Wendy Parker.
More information on the Parks and Recreation Board can be found on the County’s Boards and Commissions webpage or by contacting Los Alamos County Parks Superintendent Wendy Parker at firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 505-663-1771.
