Los Alamos County government officials encourage residents to participate in the ongoing public comment period for proposed ordinance 02-306 to amend the Chapter 6 animal code. The public is invited to submit comments online at lacnm.com/Animal-Wildlife-Ordinances until December 7, at 11:59 p.m. under the "Discussion" accordion.

All written comments received online will be compiled, included with the agenda documentation, and shared with the County Council before the public hearing scheduled for December 12 at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers (1000 Central Ave., Los Alamos). During the public hearing, citizens will also have an opportunity to provide verbal comments directly to councilors prior to their decision for adoption.

Los Alamos County Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone presented two ordinances at the November 13 town hall: The proposed amended animal ordinance, and a second draft ordinance to add a new section that prohibits feeding waterfowl and wild animals.

The second ordinance will not be introduced or considered for adoption on December 12. Rather, councilors will discuss the draft ordinance that prohibits feeding waterfowl and wild animals and determine what next steps, if any, will be taken on this proposed ordinance. A copy of both proposed ordinances and the recorded town hall are available on the County website at lacnm.com/Animal-Wildlife-Ordinances
