We are New Mexico's only 4-service, not-for-profit, publically-owned utility. We proudly provide our community with electric, natural gas, water and wastewater services as we have done for more than 40 years. Established under Article 5 of the 1968 Charter for the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, the DPU provides payments to Los Alamos County in lieu of the franchise fees and taxes that would normally be assessed against a privately owned utility. In 2008 the DPU added provision of centralized customer service for the County to its service offerings by merging the DPU customer service function to create a unified 311Customer Care Center. The DPU is not supported by taxes, but rather by rates paid for utility services and by certain auxiliary fees. Our Management Team shares more than 100 years of design, engineering, finance and management experience in multi-service utilities, power systems, federal agencies and public works organizations. Our governing Board of Public Utilities ensures that DPU's objectives and tactical execution remain aligned with the expressed will of our owners - the public. The DPU sponsored in Albuquerque in May 2009. and is working on implementaiton of recommendations for development and certification of installers for renewable energy equipment; deriving clear-cut recommendations for: the establishment of reliable and predictable incentives for renewable power; engendering greater collaboration between New Mexico entities in the development of storage technologies; and assessing pilot projects in rural areas that bring renewable and traditional generation technologies together.
