Gas Piping-Customer Owned
Home > Public Utilities > Gas Piping-Customer Owned

Updated:  August 2009
Why Read This:  Some property owners and homeowners believe that a public utility maintains household gas pipes which is false. Gas piping responsibilities are delineated on this page, and in its attachments.
Also of Note: The U.S. Dept. of Transporation requires an annnual gas leak survey, which is underway this month and next in Los Alamos and White Rock.

~~~~~~~~
Concerns about the condition and safety of customer-owned gas piping prompted the Congress to issue a mandate, Docket PS-135, Amendment 192-3 that requires all gas utilities to notify their customers of the following:
The buried gas piping from the meter to your
building is customer-owned and is not
maintained by the gas utility (Department of
Public Utilities for Los Alamos County).
Please click on the link below to read more about the rationale and background for this federal mandate. Or check with the United States Dept. of Transportation for their 1995-1996 Report on Pipeline Safety.
