The Los Alamos County Ice Rink offers several levels of skating lessons from ages three to adult! Lessons are offered weekdays and weekends. Each participant receives a certificate of completion upon skills demonstration on last day of class. Classes must be paid for in advance. Registration is in-person only at the Ice Rink
Lesson registration begins in November when the Ice Rink is open for business.
Snowflakes (3 & 4 Year Olds)
Children will learn ice and skate safety (checking laces, skates, learning to fall), how to walk in skates, the beginning stroke (push with toe, glide), and preparation for the snowplow stop. They will learn to put these moves together in time to games and songs.
Penguins - Beginners
Children will review what they have learned, know or will begin learning about ice and skate safety (checking laces, skates, and learning to fall), how to walk in skates, two-foot glide, back two-foot glide, snowplow stops, and put these together to games and music.
Participants will be separated based on ability within the classes.
Polar Bears - Intermediate
Participants MUST be able to skate backwards to enroll.
Introduction to forward and backward crossovers, T-Stops, and turns from forward to backward skating.
Adult Skating Lessons - 18 Yrs and Older
Refresh your ice skating skills or learn to ice skate. Come over lunch to the ice rink for classes.
SpotLight - Private Lessons
For those needing a bit more individual attention, scheduling flexibility, or one-on-one teaching enroll in a Spotlight lesson.
Skating instructors will work around your schedule and instruction needs.
