The Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center is a world-class facility that offers diverse activities to users of all age, income, fitness and interest levels. The facility adds to the quality of life of Los Alamos and the surrounding area by catering to the varied needs of area residents. The Aquatic Center strives to offer safe and affordable recreation, instruction, fitness, competitive, and therapeutic programs for all interested citizens and visitors.

Our Aquatic Center is known internationally for providing High-Altitude Training to swim teams in our Olympic size pool at an altitude of 7,245 feet above sea level. Such teams are the Aqlub Swim Team (Japan), Leige Natacion (Belguim), Metropolitan State University (Denver, CO), and Wildkit Aquatics (Chicago, IL). A special rental package and long course lanes are provided to all swim teams as time allows.

We provide lap swimming each hour of the day the pool is open. In an effort to provide more recreational opportunities with an Olympic pool, we set up our Crocodile Obstacle Course and an Inflatable Jumper (weather permitting) during "Wacky Wednesday" and "Freaky Friday" events, recipient of the 2004 NMRPA Innovative Award. We provide space for five private swim teams, Aquatic Club(PAC),Los Alamos Aquatomics (LAA) Leasure Aquatics Masters, Duke City Aquatics, Mountain Club and our Los Alamos High School Swimming Diving Teams.
