Walkup Aquatic Center HVAC And Boiler Replacement Reopening Delayed

The project at the Walkup Aquatics Center was originally planned to reopen to the public in mid-November. The pool is not ready yet but will reopen soon.

The pool closed Aug. 17 after the Los Alamos Triathlon for this project. The $2.2 million project replaces the 26-year-old boilers and HVAC for the entire building.

The major equipment is installed in the building and final connections and controls programming are now taking place. As soon as the system demonstrates proper operation and the State construction and pool inspections are complete, the reopening will be announced through local media with a days’ notice. The first day open will be free to the public to welcome patrons back to the pool.

Services to the public will be maintained at:

Municipal Building Suite 150
Open 8 am to 5 pm Monday – Friday.  The public can obtain park reservations, camping permits, aquatics center passes, recreation program/event registration, temporary vending permits.  Phone 662-8170.

Ice Rink
Open 8 am to 5 pm Monday – Friday.  The public can rent putters & golf balls, disc golf supplies, snow shoes & poles.  Phone 662-4500

The administrative functions and all staff associated with the Aquatic Center are moved to the following locations:

Front Desk Services – Municipal Building Suite 150.  Phone 662-8170:  Amanda Salazar will be the primary person at the Recreation window located at CEDD.  Debbie Gonzales and Christine Chavez will be located at the Parks Office at PCS 5.

CEDD & PW Offices: Denise McCoy (Aquatic Center Manager) & Joe Harris (Aquatic Center Program Coordinator): Their extensions will remain the same.

Parks Offices at PCS Bldg. 5: Randy Smith (PROS Division Manager), Dianne Marquez (Recreation Program Manager), and Laura Valdez (Senior Office Specialist): Their phone extensions will remain the same and the Recreation Division phone number (662-8173) will ring to this office.

Ice Rink: Brendan Tuning (Senior Recreation Leader) and Nan Manzanares (Recreation Leader):  Their extensions will not work at the Ice Rink so the main line to reach them is the Ice Rink phone # 662-4500; however, the main numbers (662-8170 or 662-8173) can be used to contact them and you will be transferred to the Rink.  They will be t the Rink Monday – Friday from 8:00AM – 5:00PM and they will be assisting with equipment rental that is typically available at the AC Front Desk (putters & golf balls, disc golf supplies, snow shoes & poles, etc…).  As we move into Ice Rink season and that overlaps with the AC HVAC project and AC reopening these hours may change.

Aquatics Center Lifeguards & Maintenance Staff:  Will be relocated at Barranca Mesa Pool, Golf Course Maintenance & Pro Shop Operations, Parks Office, and the Ice Rink.
