Demolition of Former Fire Station 3 in White Rock
Home > County Projects > Capital Projects > Demolition of Former Fire Station 3 in White Rock
Description:
Demolish the former White Rock Fire Station 3, located near the intersection of Rover and SR 4 in White Rock. The structure is a dilapidated building that is no longer in use by the County after opening the new fire station (across from the Hampton Inn on SR 4.) The County plans to combine this vacated site with the site immediately located to the north (the former RV Storage lot) which would allow the County to market both properties to developers.
News and Updates as of February 26, 2010:
The project is within budget and on schedule. Demolition of the old building (main structure) is primarily completed. The contractor is now removing the foundation and disposing of concrete and asphalt. This work will continue into March.
The next step will be for the contractor to fill any depressions caused by building demolition. The exposed soil areas will be seeded with native grasses to prevent erosion. The contractor will also be required to maintain storm water best management practices until adequate vegetation is achieved.
Background:
The County Council awarded a contract for demolition of the Former Fire Station on October 6, 2009 to Paul Parker Construction, Inc.
The Invitation to Bid was advertised on August 30, 2009 and the bids closed on September 21, 2009. Eight bids were recieved and considered. The low bidder was Paul Parker Construction whose demolition bid of $123,458 was separated into $89,095 for the Former Fire Station 3 and $34,363 for a separate task (demolition of County-owned houses located at 3661 and 3689 Trinity Drive - which was included in order to take advantage of bidding and contract efficiencies).
Project Budget:
The Former Fire Station 3 project budget was established through the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) process and is funded in the approved FY2010 budget at $400,749. The requested project budget is $188,042. Due to the highly competitive bids received, the anticipated overall project cost is $264,998, which is $274,774 less than the combined approved FY2010 allocation of $539,772.
Schedule:
Final completion is still on track for April 30, 2010.
