Operations Division
The Operations Division of the Los Alamos Police Department is responsible for Patrol and Criminal Investigations functions. Within these two main functions, officers in the Operations division may take on special assignments or be assigned to special teams in addition to their regular duties.
The Departments Reserve Officer Program is also a part of the Operations Division.
The Operations Division is overseen by Deputy Chief of Police Kevin Purtymun, who can be reached via e-mail at kevin.purtymun@lacnm.us.
Police Administration
LAPD Administration encompasses the Communications, Detention, Animal Control, and Records Divisions, as well as Internal Affairs. Administration interfaces with other County employees as well as the general public on many matters not directly related to patrol or law enforcement, which are nevertheless important to the overall operation of the Department. These include building maintenance, case coordination with the courts, citizen complaints, general requests for information, records maintenance, building tours, and much more.

Geographically, Los Alamos County is located in the north-central part of New Mexico and encompasses 110 square miles. Animal Control
The Public Service Aide/Animal Control division is responsible for providing animal control services in the County. This includes enforcement of state and local laws and ordinances regarding animal welfare, impounding stray domestic animals (dogs and cats), and animal shelter operations - which consists of animal intake and release, animal care, volunteer programs and adoption of animals.
