Photo of LAPD Records Offices The LAPD Records Division is responsible for maintaining the Department’s records involving its activities. These include records of criminal cases, jail reports, accident reports, and other reports for which records are maintained, per State and Federal statutes.

What Documents Are Available at LAPD Records?

Records staff process officer's reports such as arrest reports, field interviews, court dispositions, accidents, warrants and other miscellaneous reports. Both paper and electronic records are kept of officer reports.

Records staff also hand out and/or process the following items. (You will need Adobe Acrobat® Reader to download and print some of these forms.  Please see the Links and Documents section on the right for a complete list of forms).

  • Citizen Academy Applications
  • Citizens’ Patrol Applications
  • house check requests
  • records checks
  • records requests
  • requests for off-duty police officers
  • traffic permits for parades and other special events that involve public roads and property
  • Fingerprint requests - see below
Bring completed forms to the Records window at the police department. You can get blank copies of any of the above forms from the Records window directly.

Hours of Operation

The Records Division is open five days per week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. MST.

Fingerprints Requests

LAPD detention staff takes fingerprints for those persons requesting them for employment or other purposes. Fingerprinting service is available from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, except holidays. Most people have two sets of prints taken.
Make sure you bring:

  • Official fingerprint cards from the agency/organization requesting your prints. We cannot use LAPD cards for this purpose, because the cards will come back to the Department, rather than to the agency/organization requesting your prints.
  • Cash, check, or money order for $5.00 per card, payable to Los Alamos County. Usually one spends $10.00 on fingerprint cards.

Detention staff will issue you a cash receipt for your fingerprints. If the prints are illegible for any reason, LAPD will re-do the fingerprints provided you have your receipt.

House Check Requests

LAPD offers a house check service for people who live in single dwellings and plan to be absent from their homes. Service is provided for a time period not to exceed two weeks. This service is not offered to residents of apartments, condominiums, duplexes or quad-plexes.
Bring:

  • Please fill out the house check request form and personally bring it to the LAPD Records window.
  • There is no fee for this service.

Note that when a resident returns home, he/she must come to LAPD in person to cancel the house check; phone calls are not accepted for house check cancellations.

Requests for Off-Duty Police Officers

Citizens and community organizations often request a police presence for special events such as middle and high school dances, high school football or basketball games, veterans parades, fund-raising marathons, etc.

  • Please complete the Request for Off-Duty Police Officer and bring it to the LAPD Records window.
  • Be sure to include all billing information on your request. LAPD will bill you for the officer’s time.
  • The fee for this service is $60.00/hour/officer, with a two-hour minimum charge per officer.

Please note!
LAPD strongly recommends that you/your organization give the Department two to four weeks advance notice for your off-duty officer request. LAPD will make every effort to fulfill your request.

Traffic Permits

Traffic permits are required for any activity that impedes traffic on public roads and thoroughfares in the County. Such activities include: excavation, block parties, parades and marathons, construction, movement of hazardous or oversize vehicles, etc. All traffic permits must be signed by both LAPD and the County Traffic Engineering office.

How to Get a Traffic Permit

  1. Click on the links at right to learn the supplemental procedures required for obtaining each type of permit. The same traffic permit form for is used for every type of traffic impedance.
  2. Fill out the permit completely and then bring it to LAPD. You can also fax the completed permit to LAPD at 505-662-8287. Once it has been reviewed and signed, LAPD faxes it to Traffic Engineering.
  3. For any neighborhood events such as block parties, fill out and sign the Los Alamos County Agreement and Release of Liability. This is required.
  4. Once LAPD has reviewed and signed off on the permit, take it to Traffic Engineering for signature.
