Recovery Operations Center Shutting Down at Noon
 
The Los Alamos County Recovery Operations Center (ROC) will be shutting down at Noon today. Planning and recovery activities that were urgent during the initial re-population of Los Alamos have been completed.  Normal County business operations will resume tomorrow (Tuesday, July 5). The 311 Customer Care Center will continue to be open until 5:00 p.m. today – calls that were coming in to the ROC will be redirected to 311 after noon.
NR #47 Lost Pets
Residents who have pets who may have gotten lost during the fire and evacuation this week are being asked to contact Animal Control through the Police Dispatch Center at 662-8222. Animal Control officers may have picked up the pet and taken it to the County's Animal Shelter, located next to East Park near the entrance to Los Alamos.
NR#41 July 3, 2011 12:15 p.m.
Townsite open, but some roads in the area remain closed.

Los Alamos, NM – Los Alamos County would like to remind residents that, although the townsite is open, some roads remain closed around the Los Alamos area. The following information was submitted to the County by Lt. Garcia of State Police regarding closures:

 

FR 144/31 mile road

SR4 at Monte Rey South

SR 4 at Mile Post 33

Highway 290/FR 10

 

Evacuees are now able to return to their homes.

Los Alamos, New Mexico July 3, 2011  Los Alamos County Police Chief Wayne Torpy announces that all normal access points to the Los Alamos county townsite are open at 8 a.m.  today with the following two exceptions:  State Road 4 remains closed West of Monterey Drive South, and all access points to the Jemez Mountains to and from Los Alamos County remain closed.

 Torpy said, “We urge residents, to be patient, to be aware that public safety and other workers are still engaged in recovery efforts, and that smoke in the community can still reduce visibility for motorists...

Diamond Drive Update - Post Fire

Traffic control will remain unchanged on Diamond Drive for the rest of the week. Traffic control changes are expected for the Trinity Drive/Diamond intersection starting Monday, July 11. This was work that the Contractor had originally planned to begin this week, until the emergency occurred with the Las Conchas wildfire. More details will be released on Friday.

 

NR#48 July 3, 2011 2:30 p.m.

The Los Alamos County Airport is currently closed to general aviation. The contractor expects to be on site Wednesday to complete the runway rehabilitation project, which was pre-empted due to the Las Conchas wildfire and townsite evacuation. The goal is to complete the project and re-open the airport this weekend.
