LOS ALAMOS, N.M., August 6, 2012 — Effective 6 a.m. today, Los Alamos National Laboratory will be open to LANL and Department of Energy badge holders only.
Badges will be physically checked at the Laboratory's vehicle access points. Those without badges will be directed around the Laboratory via New Mexico Route 4.
"This is a precautionary measure for the safety and security of our employees, our facilities, and the general public," said Mike Lansing, LANL's associate director for safeguards and security. "We respect everyone's right to express themselves peacefully and, working with the Los Alamos Police Department, we have made accommodations for that."
Several groups have announced intentions to conduct demonstrations in Los Alamos on Monday. An assembly area is being provided just north of Laboratory property.
Access restrictions will be lifted as soon as possible. Please watch for updates at www.lanl.gov, on Twitter @LosAlamosNatLab and on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/losalamosnationallab .
