After hearing an update from the Staff, The Boyer Company and many public comments, the Council did not take action at their August 13 meeting about the Trinity Site. Several Councilors said during the final hour of discussion that they wanted to have some more time to reflect on what they had heard from the public, and to consider remarks made by The Boyer Company's representative Wade Williams that night. The Council agreed to recess the Special Session until a later date. They anticipate taking formal action in a vote about how to proceed on the Trinity Site and with developer The Boyer Company at the meeting.
The Los Alamos County Council had determined in a special session on July 23, 2009 that they needed to take action, but first desired to have input from the public. The July 23 meeting focused on the status of negotiations with The Boyer Company and what has occurred since January 2007 when negotiations began. The Council also reviewed the evolution of site plans over the last two years for Boyer's proposed lifestyle center ("The Trinity Place") and discussed differences in what was first proposed by Boyer in 2007 versus the site plan that is being proposed today, which has been downsized as the project has progressed. In general, three options were discussed July 23: Here are the three options discussed at the July 23 Council meeting:
- Path 1: Negotiate with Boyer without executing a Development Agreement; Begin testing the market for other opportunities (this is the current path)
- Path 2: Sign a Development Agreement with Boyer (if Boyer doesn't agree, proceed to Path 3)
- Path 3: Discontinue negotiations with Boyer; Issue a new RFP document to select a new developer
The file "Trinity Site Options" has complete details on each Path with listed Pros/Cons. For additional information about the project, please link to the main Trinity Site Revitalization Project webpage.
