Readers Advisory
Los Alamos County Libraries have a wonderful selection of books-shelves and shelves of books. But how do patrons find a really satisfying book of fiction to read, one that really hits the spot? Everyone has something different in mind: some people like mysteries, others like humourous writing, yet others prefer award winning fiction or classic literature. Jean Moses, Circulation Program Manager at Mesa Public Library, has made it easier to find the perfect read with the new readers advisory area. She has also made a comfortable nook in the fiction section at Mesa and she invites patrons to curl up in a cozy chair and spend time browsing through these great resources she has put together:
- Folders which include handouts of suggested titles by genre or topic: Westerns, Classics, Author Readalikes, Multicultural, Humorous, Movies, Heartwarming & Positive, Animals, Adventure, Historical, Women, Romance, SciFi Fantasy, Mysteries, and Award/Best Fiction.
- Bibliographies of fiction and readers advisory books along with websites to browse for recommended titles
- Bookshelves of guides to fiction from different perspectives
- Bulletin board with news, cartoons, reviews, and articles
Please try this great new addition to the library on the main level near the fiction stacks and the checkout desk. Just ask at the checkout desk at White Rock Branch for a smaller selection of the reference books along with the handouts of genre booklists. And, of course, friendly and informed library staff are always available to help patrons find a good book too!
